Kenyon Midgets back on familiar ground

By Ken de la Bastide

In the opening race of the 2026 campaign for the Kenyon Midget Series, former champion Ayrton Houk led only one lap for the victory, he will be looking to repeat this weekend. The series is making the second of three trips to the high-banked quarter-mile oval where Houk used lapped traffic to steal the win from Evan Hammond.

Kyle Sheard came home in third with Kyle Hamilton and Jase Petty rounding out the top five.

Danny O'Gara will be making his first start in a Kenyon Midget after the Toledo race was postponed because of weather.

This Saturday marks the 23rd feature event in Anderson since 2021 with four-time champion Dameron Taylor scoring seven feature wins, five runner-up showings and two podium finishes.

Houk scored his second Anderson win to go along with a second place run and two third place finishes. “I'm looking to continue to finish on the podium,” Houk said who has scored two wins this season. “Our team is off to a good start.”

Hammond has scored two runner-up and two podium finishes with Sheard scoring his first career win at Anderson last year.

“I have a love, hate relationship with Anderson,” Sheard said. “I got my first win there and have always been fast at the track. I'm hoping to have something for (Dameron) Taylor this year,” he said.

Isaac Johnson is hoping for some better results at Anderson, a place where Lady Luck has not been kind to him in the past.

Houk leads the point standings by 55 points over Johnson with Sheard in third followed by Hammond and Evan Patton.

Houk's teammate Hunter Peri is the Redline Ace Rookie of the Year point leaders chased by Braydon Rutter and Seth Tozer.

Tozer was the BHR rookie of the race at Anderson with a ninth place finish with Rutter coming home in 13th and Peri in 14th.
