For the second consecutive year the Kenyon Midget Series will close out the season with double features at Anderson Speedway. The planned 50-lap race at the Indianapolis Speedrome on Sept. 20 fell victim to the weather after qualifying took place.
Current point leader Dameron Taylor is looking for a fourth Kenyon Midget title and leads Johnson by 124 points.
Taylor has won both appearances of the series on the demanding high banked quarter-mile oval this season. The Indianapolis veteran will be looking for his 20th win at Anderson and 40 wins in his career. Taylor won rookie of the year honors in 2012 and has been crowned champion in 2017, 2018 and 2022.
Johnson, a two-time winner this year, has scored finishes of fourth and fifth in the two Anderson races this year.
In the Redline Ace Rookie of the Year battle Andrew Wall leads Clayton Bonhanon by 81 points. Bonhanon finished second in the first Anderson race while Wall has a career best fifth in the Don and Mel Kenyon Classic.
Five competitors are battling for the seventh through tenth point standings.
Kyle Sheard is currently seventh and has been fast at Anderson in the past and is looking for that first career win.
Evan Patton is 52 markers behind Sheard, but is only 40 points ahead of Ryan Shilkuski with Lee Pierce one point further back and Brian Richardson only five points out of the top ten.
Shilkuski recorded a third place run in the first Anderson race and part-time competitor Jase Petty was second to Taylor in the 75-lap race.
There is also a tight battle for the K&K Marketing Top Gun qualifying award. Landon Brown currently has scored 58 qualifying points followed by Sheard at 45. Johnson has 40 qualifying points followed by Taylor with 39, Jase Petty with 29 and Hammond with 26.
